Graduated with Personal Support Worker Certificate in 2016 and now taking professional development courses to add to her resume
Amanda Lupien takes full advantage of online learning and the support of staff at the Contact North | Contact Nord online learning centre in Dryden. A number of years ago, she returned home from the Confederation College campus in Thunder Bay to finish her Business – Accounting Diploma online from their Dryden satellite campus.
She connected to her classes using Contact North | Contact Nord’s web conferencing platform at the online learning centre in Dryden.
After working for 10 years in accounting, she wanted a career change. Once again with Contact North | Contact Nord’s support, she enrolled in Confederation College’s online Personal Support Worker program.
“The classes were delivered by video conference,” explains Amanda. “It was a very interactive classroom, including doing group work with classmates in other locations.”
Having graduated with her Personal Support Worker credential and now working full-time in the field, Amanda continues to take online courses to “beef up” her resume with additional certifications and develop advanced skills. She completed University of Toronto’s six module online program, Understanding Indigenous Perspectives. She is now enrolled in the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health’s online Mental Health and Addictions 101 series of online courses.
“I watch the videos on my tablet or on a phone,” she says about the ease of online learning.
Amanda loves her work and plans to continue taking courses online for professional development and personal interest.
