Completed 26 literacy and basic skills courses and enrolled in Herzing College’s on-campus Business Administration program
When Amelia Gabriel moved to Ottawa to be close to family, she was inspired to upgrade her skills. With the support of staff at the Contact North | Contact Nord online learning centre in Orléans, she enrolled in The LearningHUB’s Learning to Communicate Using MS Word 2010 and Learning to Communicate Using MS Excel. She went on to complete 7 courses and then enrolled in Good Learning Anywhere – Sioux Hudson Literacy Council’s Ready to Work. This included 17 courses that help students prepare for and succeed in the workplace.
Amelia is a new Canadian citizen and worked in banking and finance in the Philippines and Hong Kong. She arrived in Canada only six years ago and worked in service jobs. “Online courses are enhancing my knowledge,” explains Amelia. “The courses help me in customer service too.”
She finds online courses convenient and can participate in them in the evening. “The Contact North staff stayed in touch with me, and were always asking me if I needed help,” Amelia shares.
After completing the basic skills courses, she decided to pursue a college diploma to help her get a better job. She enrolled in Herzing College’s on-campus Business Administration program.
Amelia is looking forward to graduating in Spring 2019 and finding work at a local business.
