Graduated Summer 2019 and considering an additional year to complete the Office Administration Diploma
Returning to school after a family break-up was a giant step for Barbara Davies. With support from the Ontario Government’s Second Career program, she headed to Loyalist College. Staff at both Loyalist College and the Contact North | Contact Nord online learning centre in Madoc assisted her to enrol in Loyalist College’s online Office Administration Certificate program.
Barbara lives in the small town of Madoc, a 45-minute drive from the college campus, and has school-age children at home. She only wanted an online program. “If I had to drive to the campus, it reduced my time for my kids and any other paid work,” she explains. “The online learning centre is only 10 minutes from my house.”
She appreciates the use of the computers and high-speed Internet at the online learning centre. “I learned to use double monitors at the online learning centre!” she exclaims. “I can have my instructions on one screen and doing the assignment on the other screen, way easier.” At home, she says there are people calling, kids in the other room, pets, laundry and dishes always calling her.
All her assignments are downloaded from the college portal and she works on her own. If she has any questions, she reaches out to her professor by e-mail. However, she also appreciates the assistance and encouragement she receives from staff at the online learning centre.
Barbara graduated in Summer 2019 and is also considering enrolling for a second year to complete the Office Administration Diploma
