Through a referral from Agelic, an employment services organization in Bracebridge, to the Contact North | Contact Nord online learning centre in Bracebridge, Christine learned about the opportunity to complete an Early Childhood Education diploma through online learning. After sitting down with staff at the online learning centre to explore her options, she enrolled in Confederation College’s online Early Childhood Education program.
Christine comes from a family of teachers; both her parents taught for 30 years and her brother is a teacher. She is achieving a high grade point average in all her courses and expects to make it to the College’s honour roll when she graduates this spring.
She lives close to the online learning centre in Bracebridge and attends the majority of her classes from the online learning centre. She uses the free Internet and computers to connect to her classes on Contact North | Contact Nord’s web conferencing platform.
“I was much more confident going into my classes knowing they were live classes. I really like the feedback and interaction with other people,” she says. She writes exams at the online learning centre in Bracebridge and appreciates the extra support she receives from staff, such as learning how to put together a PowerPoint presentation.
Christine is completing her last semester in Winter 2019 and will finish with her third and final placement in her community. Her placements offered experiences in a variety of community organizations. She is hopeful about employment after graduation since she is aware of job opportunities through her placements.
