Completed high school Chemistry course and seeking employment
When Craig Beckman attended a job fair in Dryden, he learned about the local Contact North | Contact Nord online learning centre. With the support of staff at the online learning centre, he enrolled in Lakehead District School Board – Adult Education Centre’s Chemistry (College Preparation) Grade 12 course.
“I feel that taking the Chemistry course helped me get a job interview,” he admits. He was out of work for several months and hoping to secure employment at the local saw mill. He knew Chemistry was a requirement and decided to upgrade his high school credit. It was over two decades since he was in high school and taking the one course online was the perfect solution.
As part of his experience, Craig became familiar with free online courses available such as Spanish. He travels to Mexico on vacation with his family and likes to brush up on his Spanish before they leave. “I want to look at more free courses; there are so many different ones. I had no idea there was so many available,” he admits.
Craig was called for an interview by the mill and is hopeful for a job offer.
