Plans to graduate in Spring 2020 and got a job
When Dianne Laviolette found herself unemployed, she turned to online learning for retraining. With support from staff at the Contact North | Contact Nord online learning centre in Cornwall, she enrolled in Fanshawe College’s online Food Service Worker program.
“I didn’t know anything about computers. How to use Microsoft Office or how to send e-mails,” she shares. “The first course was challenging, but now I find it easy.” Dianne previously worked in manufacturing and did not have to use a computer in her job.
She receives help from staff at the Contact North | Contact Nord online learning centre to navigate Fanshawe College’s portals and sending e-mails. “They encourage me all the time,” she exclaims. Getting comfortable with computers was beneficial for studying online, however, she also needed to use computers for her field placement. She completed her field placement at a local long-term care facility.
Dianne plans to graduate in Spring 2020 and was hired by the long-term care facility where she completed her field placement for casual employment.
