Plans to graduate in Winter 2021
After the birth of her daughter, Elizabeth Kerley learned about the Contact North | Contact Nord online learning centre in Haliburton from SIRCH Community Services. With the support of staff at the online learning centre, she enrolled in Fleming College’s online Medical Office Support Staff program.
“Once I heard about Contact North and online learning, it was the perfect solution for me since I would be at home for a few years,” she explains. “I knew I wanted to work in an administrative capacity in the medical field and Fleming College had the exact program I wanted.”
Elizabeth thought she would be off work for some time after starting her program, however, was offered the opportunity to work as a medical office assistant. “I use my day-to-day knowledge for my schoolwork and the same for my work,” she says. Although online learning requires disciplined attention, she appreciates the ability to work and get her education at the same time.
She appreciated the flexibility of the online learning and only interacted with instructors and classmates on the discussion boards. She completed the Medical Office Support Staff program and immediately enrolled in the Hospital Nursing Unit Secretary program.
Elizabeth plans to graduate in Winter 2021 and seek work in a local hospital.
