Working as a Personal Support Worker and will graduate in August 2019
With the support of staff at the Contact North | Contact Nord online learning centre in Madoc, Liz Kilpatrick achieved a number of educational goals. When she needed the prerequisite of a Grade 11 Biology credit to apply to the Personal Support Worker program, staff helped her enrol with Quinte Adult Education’s online course.
Liz is in regular contact with staff at Contact North | Contact Nord online learning centre and was alerted about the opportunity to enrol in Loyalist College’s Personal Support Worker program offered in her community of Marmora.
She graduated from the Personal Support Worker program and once employed in her community, she reached out to the online learning centre in Madoc again for additional programs related to her field. They helped her enrol in Native Education and Training College’s online Recreation Therapy program. Her employer promoted her to the new position while she completed the program.
Taking online classes, working full-time and parenting teenagers while her husband travels is challenging. “I kick everyone out of the house,” she jokes. “I will give away a shift and spend the day working,” she says about getting time to do school work.
She also works in a supportive environment where professional development is promoted.
Liz plans to graduate in August 2019.
