Plans to graduate in 2022
Mary McClinchey works full-time for the federal government and wanted to advance her career by acquiring college credentials. With the support of staff at the Contact North | Contact Nord online learning centre in Haileybury, she enrolled in Northern College’s online Business - Accounting program.
“Online is my only option,” explains Mary. “Contact North staff gave me several options to choose from and I decided on Northern College.” Mary connects to her classes using Contact North | Contact Nord’s web conferencing platform from her home computer and because she works full-time, watches the recorded lectures in the evenings available from the web conference platform.
Mary says she has little interaction with other students, which she prefers. She works full-time and has other responsibilities leaving several nights a week and weekends to focus on her coursework.
During the closure of the Haileybury online learning centre due to the COVID-19 pandemic, she finds no noticeable interruptions in her studies. “For me it's no different, other than not going into the online learning centre to write tests,” she shares. Contact North | Contact Nord staff continue to provide support via telephone or online and Northern College instructors provided take-home exams.
Mary plans to graduate in 2022.
