Graduated Spring 2020

With support from the Government of Ontario’s Second Career program and staff at the Contact North | Contact Nord online learning centre in Georgina, Nina Paribok enrolled in Durham College’s online Bookkeeping program.

Due to health reasons, she left her job and pursued a college program to transition to another career. “I like math, that is why I chose bookkeeping,” she shares. Nina emigrated from Belarus over 20 years ago with an undergraduate degree in Engineering, however was unable to find work in the field.

The Bookkeeping program is completed in one year and she works independently from her home computer. She writes exams at the online learning centre, which is not far from her home.

“It was like my full-time job,” she says about the discipline required for the program. While her children were at school, she worked on her own school work. If she had questions, she posted them on the program’s online discussion board and the instructor or other students provided an answer.

Nina graduated Spring 2020 and is now seeking employment.
