Plans to apply for on-campus college program
Yvonne Spicer needed to upgrade her high school English credit from basic level to college level and with the support of Contact North | Contact Nord staff, she enrolled in Lakehead District School Board - Lakehead Adult Education Centre’s online English (College Preparation) Grade 12 course.
She is a casual worker at a daycare centre and wants to improve her opportunities for full-time work. She moved to London, Ontario, and plans to enrol in the on-campus Early Childhood Education program in Fall 2020.
“When I started the English course, it was difficult because I have a learning disability,” she explains. With the Ontario Government’s Passport funding, she hired a tutor to help. “We met and discussed the assignment and she helped me type it out,” she shares. The assistance paid off; she received 84% on her final mark.
Yvonne completed the English course and plans to apply to an Early Childhood Education college program.
