Apply to borrow a laptop or Internet modem

Thank you for your interest in our Student Technology Service, which loans laptops and Internet modems to eligible Ontario residents so they can do their studies online.

Our supply of loaner laptops and Internet modems is limited. We will review your application to confirm if you are eligible. If we can’t ship the equipment immediately, you will be placed on a wait list and notified as soon as it is available.

Please note that Internet access is limited to 50GB of data per month.

  • If you exceed the 50GB limit in any month during the loan period, your modem will be disabled and must be returned immediately. If you have borrowed a laptop, it will also be disabled and must be returned.
  • You will be notified when your Internet use exceeds 40GB in a month.


Before you fill out the application form below, please make sure you have the following information:

  1. Your address for shipping the equipment:
    • Street address
    • Apartment number and buzz code (if you live in an apartment)
    • City or town
    • Postal code
    • Phone number

  1. The name of the education institution or school

  2. The name of at least one course you are registered in (or have applied for) and the course code from the institution or school.

  3. Proof of application or registration in your online course to be uploaded in any of the following acceptable file formats: jpeg, png, heic, docx, doc and pdf.

It can take between 15 – 30 minutes to complete the form.

Please also note that if your application is incomplete, we will reach out to you from technologyloans@contactnorth.ca or 1-877-999-9149 to get the missing information. If we don’t have that information within five business days, your application will be cancelled.

The service provides free use of a loaned laptop and/or Internet access allowing you to complete your online courses.

Internet access is limited to a maximum of 50GB of data per month during the loan period. If you exceed the 50GB limit within any month during the loan period, your Internet access will be disabled, and you will need to return the modem immediately. If you have a loaned Contact North | Contact Nord laptop, it will also be disabled and will have to be returned.

You will be alerted when your Internet usage exceeds 40GB within a month.

We will review this application and confirm if you are eligible for an extension to your original loan period.

If your application is missing any information, we will email from technologyloans@contactnorth.ca or call you from 1-877-999-9149 to collect the information. Please provide the missing information to complete your application within five (5) business days. If the missing information is not received by this deadline, your application will be cancelled and you will need to start a new application.

To complete your application, you must provide proof of applying for or registered in an online course. Please ensure you have this documentation ready to upload before proceeding with the application form below.
